First Edition. Hardcover. 12mo. x, 11-284 pages. Blueish marbled paper covered boards with gilt tile on the leather spine. Boards are edge worn and rubbed. The front cover is split upper front joint. Leather is rubbed, cracked, and chipped head of the spine. Inscriptions, names, and some pen marks written on the end sheets and preliminary pages. Interior text clean. First edition, first issue.
Names and some scribbles written on the front end sheets. Names include J. Johnson Bank (spelling?); N L Flaisail (spelling?); and Clinton Samples (spelling?). On the verso of right front flyleaf is a pencil verse note that is partly legible. Written on the front blank end sheet (which has paper repairs on the edges) is inscribed - "Henry C. Barbee 1(st) Co. K 5th Cavl Paynes Brigade Lees Division Hamptons Corp ANV." Some pen marks on the preliminary pages vi-ix. A rambling verse is written in pencil on the rear end papers. Confederate imprint.
