First Edition. Wraps. Original peach printed, stitched wraps. ix, [1], 87 pages, [1]. Front and rear wraps detached. Front cover chipped with minor loss to printed title. Spine is perished. Interior contents in good condition. Signed at top of front wrap by Wm. Weeks with the inscription upper left corner "Rec.d by mail Nov. 3d 1849." "Rev. Dr Jenks, Boston" written on a brown piece of paper pasted down on the verso of the front wrap.

Rev. Dr. Jenks was a Harvard graduate and taught at Bowdoin College as a young man. He later moved to Boston and opened the first free chapel for seamen. Jenks was active in the "Society for the Religious and Moral Instruction of the Poor." This essay was reprinted from the Southern Presbyterian Review.
