First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. [1], x, pages 3-684 pages. Missing the frontispiece portrait. A few illustrations on the last pages. Dark cloth covered boards with black leather corners and spine. Raised bands and gilt lettered title on the spine. Front cover is detached. Leather is rubbed on the corners, outer joints, and spine. Front hinge was glued at one point. All pages up to preliminary page vii, including title, are chipped and detached. Rear hinge is cracked. Ocassional pencil check marks and brief notations written in the margins of this auction catalog. Page 574 has arithmetic numbers after letter Z in the catalog. Contents include a short biography of Samuel Drake; 10417 items for sale in the first catalog; and 2531 items in another catalog. Previous owner inscription on title page is dated in March, 1876.
