Front blank end sheet mostly torn out leaving behind a short inscription that reads - "With E. P. Gurney's love 9 Mo 14th 1881 (or 7)." E. P. Gurney name appears on pages 117, 170, and page 172 (possibly more). Anna (Gurney) Backhouse from England died, aged 28, aboard the British Warship HMS off the coast of Italy during the Italian revolution. She was the daughter of Joseph John Gurney a famous Quaker.
