First Edition. Hardcover. Small quarto. [1], 576 pages, clxxxvi Appendix and Index, [1]. Illustrated with portraits, maps, engravings, and folding plates. Complete. Olive green cloth hardcover with black lines and gilt and black illustration on the front cover. Gilt title on the spine. Floral decorated end papers. Text block mostly secure with a couple of thin cracks to the gutters. 5 large folding maps and views following the appendix are in very good condition. Folding illustrations following the appendix and inserted before the maps are loose but in very good condition otherwise. Light edge wear to cloth extremities. A small faded spot to the cloth on the corner of the rear cover. A couple of tiny scuffs and a small chip to the front end papers. Rear hinge has a very thin crack. Text is clean and unmarked. Previous owner last name on the front blank end paper.
