First Edition. Hardcover. 12mo. [1], 204 pages, 4 pages "Prospectus of the Metropolitan Record", [1]. Frontispiece steel engraving of the author Charles H. Smith. Illustrations by M. A. Sullivan. Brown cloth hardcover with gilt signed quote from Bill Arp on the front cover. Gilt on the spine. Yellow rear flyleaf clipped with about a quarter of the page missing. A small old taped repair on the rear blank end paper. 1866 previous owner inscription written on the right front flyleaf. A later owner's signature on the front paste down. Charles Smith, the author, served as an officer in the 8th Georgia Volunteer Infantry. After the war, Smith edited newspapers in Rome, Cartersville and Atlanta Georgia. Smith was a humorist and wrote several "letters to the editor" to the Atlanta Constitution. Good. Item #27346
