First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. Three sections with separate title pages. Part I. [3], 73 pages. Part II: [1] page prospectus for part 2, 137 pages. Part III: 24 pages, [2]. Brown cloth covered boards with leather corners and spine. Gilt title on the spine. Reddish marbled end sheets. Leather is rubbed on the corner edges, joints, and lightly on the spine. Light foxing to the first few pages. Rest of the text is very clean. Contents include sketches of "The Oconee War; Alexander McGillivary; Gen. Elijah Clark; Col. Benjamin Hawkins; Middle Georgia; Middle Georgia and the Negro; Middle Georgia and the Land Lottery System; Pine Mountain; King's Gap and King's Trails; The Pine Barren Speculation in 1794, 1795; The Yazoo Fraud; and Generals James Jackson and Anthony Wayne. This is a true first edition with the original title pages. Most copies of this book seen for sale have an Atlanta imprint. The DeRenne Georgia catalog makes a note about the printer: "In 1900, Mr. James F. Meegan purchased the remainder of Chappell's Miscellanies of Georgia from Mr. Chappell, Columbus, Ga., removed the original wrappers with printed titles, and had new title pages printed with his name on them..."
