First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. [2], 587 pages, [1] page blank, [4] pages publisher advertisements, [2]. Rebound in later brown buckram with gilt title stamped on the spine. Illustrated with frontispiece engraving of the author, page map of upper Georgia, Gilmer armorial seal on page 11, and a steel engraving of John A. Gilmer. A small period note tipped in between pages 8-9 that reads -"Hon. John A Gilmer May 4th 1865 command divided up his lands with his former slaves - Vide The World. N.Y. May 17th 1865 p. 8 first col." Frontispiece engraving is partially split with a small closed tear on the edge and starting to detach. Light toning to the text. Light damp stains to the bottom gutters of the text towards the back of the book. Light damp stains to the advertisements. Copyright page is dated 1854. Gilmer a former Georgia Governor and United States Representative was instrumental in forcing the Cherokee removal from Georgia
