First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. [2], xvi, 17-463 pages, [2]. Illustrated with frontispiece photograph of General I. M. Kirby. Burgundy cloth hardcover with gilt title on the front cover and title on the spine. Floral end sheets. Browning to the end papers. Light edge and shelf wear to the cloth binding. There is a crack to the inner bottom hinge with a very small portion of the webbing exposed. A very small thin crack to the bottom inner rear hinge. Binding is still sturdy and uniform. Illustrated with photograph portraits and and some photographs of battle locations. An ex-libris bookplate was mostly removed from the front paste down with some remnants remaining. This unit saw action in the western theater including Chickamauga, Kennesaw, Atlanta, Nashville and Franklin. A roster is included in back. Errata slip present between pages 398-399. Presentation copy: inscribed by the author - "Mrs G. F. Bowman Compliments of Mr L. W. Day March 15 - 03"
