England: n.p, ca. 1830's.
Wraps. Wraps. Approx. 7-3/4" x 4-3/4". Small 8vo, unpaginated but approx. 200 pages. Bound in a homemade wrapper of plain paper. Wraps a bit worn, edges very closely trimmed but with no loss to text. Every page, recto and verso, filled with poems (some attributed, most not) dating from the early and mid-19th century, as well as puns, riddles, anecdotes, lists, games, and random thoughts, all in a fine neat hand, usually written horizontally across the pages, but sometimes vertically or on a diagonal, forming patterns or designs. Lord Byron appears to have been a favorite poet, but others we have identified are more obscure (George Crabbe and Reginald Heber, to name only two). An inscription by signed "LB 2nd Sept 1832 Southampton" found inside the book. Very good. Item #18499
