Periodical. Newspaper. Periodicals. 13 issues (2 duplicates). Illustrated covers. Stapled issues have light wear and fading on the edges. Overall issues in good plus condition. The majority of covers are illustrated by Breil. Each periodical has 16 pages. The Proletarian was first published in Detroit. It was the official paper of the Proletarian University of America and had the endorsement of the "Local Wayne County" and of the "Socialist Party of Michigan". The paper later moved to Chicago in 1925 and operated there until 1968. Issues have stark illustrations of poverty, labor strife, and socialist political views including the aftermath of World War I, the fascists and the Klan, Industrial and Agricultural labor, cynical illustrations of "Land of Equal Opportunity" and "Let us Be Thankful" and more.
