19th century English manuscript commonplace book of Thomas Dewse with original writings.

Leather bound. Quarto. [144] pages with 12 pages blank. Contents of 8 pages in back are 'upside down' (but not bound upside down) caused by reverse writing order. Paper is nicely woven. Period sheep binding. Restored. Boards reattached. Spine replaced with brown mulberry paper. Hinges repaired front and back. The right front flyleaf is torn with loss of about 1/3 blank paper at the bottom. 2 sheets torn out in the middle of the book. Name, inscriptions and doodling written on the end sheets. Dates of inscriptions range from the 1830'-50's it appears. Contents are clean overall with a few minor spots of soiling. All hand written manuscript is neatly composed with nice examples of calligraphy, one hand-drawn colored map of Europe, a section titled "Pieces and Prose and Poetry Composed by T. Dewse" some math entries and misc. inscriptions. Fair. Item #16431
