First Edition. Full calf. Octavo. [1], 504 pages. Marbled brown calf leather binding with red leather title label. It appears a front blank end sheet or the half title page was removed. The preface page is present and precedes page 1. Earlier repairs made to the binding with hinges very tight and the leather very smooth. The outer joints appear to have been strengthened. Leather is worn and chipped on the edges and spine. Moderate toning to the text. Old damp stains to the first 90 pages. Rear end sheet coming loose. Presentation copy. An old inscription written on the right front flyleaf (difficult to transcribed) reads "Presented to the Eroalethian? Society by H L Spencer March 17th 1853". Similar faint pencil inscription written on the front paste down. A cornerstone of Tennessee History. Contents cover John Sevier, Native Americans, the American Revolution, the brief history of the "State of Franklin" in East Tennessee and more.
