First American Edition. Hardcover. 12mo. 2 volumes: [1], viii, 13-243 pages; [1], iv, 9-242 pages. Ex-institutional copy with label of "Mount Saint Mary Seminary Hookset Heights, N. H." on the front paste downs. Library numbers on the verso of the title pages. Recased in later binding with brownish marbled paper covered boards. Brown leather spine with raised bands and black leather title labels. Leather corners. Leather is rubbed along the leather joints and edges. Old ink signature of previous owner top of title pages. Work dedicated to Washington Irving. Latrobe was a traveling companion of Washington Irving and Henry L. Ellsworth in the West (Graff). First published in London in 1835 with a map. The second London edition was published in 1836. This is the first American edition printed in 1835. A map was not issued with the first American edition.
