Newspaper contents consist of Civil War news, local news, advertisements and misc. articles. One article of note concerns the use of "Balloon Telegraphing in the Civil War." Thaddeus Lowe, head of the Union Army Balloon Corps from 1861 to 1863, organized as a civilian operation, employed a group of prominent American aeronauts and seven specially built, gas-filled balloons to perform aerial reconnaissance on the Confederate States Army.
