First Edition. Full calf. 8vo. Volume I only: xii, 592pp., ii glossary, xix index. Illustrations in Anatomy and 24 color plate illustrations in Botany. Full brown calf leather binding with title label on spine. Label on spine partially chipped. Moderate scattered foxing to contents. Leather binding is dry, rubbed, cracked, etc. Skeleton illustrations on page 4 are edge worn with the first illustration missing a small section on the center edge. One of the colored botanical plates has a small tear. Previous owner inscription's on the right front flyleaf - "Sam'l H. B. Lewis Bowdo...? Main (sp.) 1841 Portland ME." Another inscription by Lewis just below the first - "S.H.B. Lewis S. B. M College Forsyth Ga. 1842." S. H. B. Lewis name is also written top of title page. The initials S.B.M. College in Forsyth, Georgia stood for the Southern Botanical Medical College. Also laid inside this book are a couple of very old tree leaves. Fair. Item #10889
