Letter. Bifolium letter. Single sheet of paper, measuring approx. 15" x 12". folded with 3 pages used for manuscript. There are some small pin holes and edge chips with very little loss of content. Letter is dated April 26th, 1857 and is addressed to his friend William Burcheson (sp?). Nicholson writes to tell his friend that he is in the land of the living. Nicholson covers a variety of subjects catching his friend up with the latest happenings. The first part of the letter described the freeze that killed the peachtrees. He also discusses the scarcity of food, his mother's health, selling a horse, buying a colt, buying a wagon, becoming a mason, naming people who were recently married and more. There is a genealogical record (source Ancestry.com) for John L. Nicholson of Moore County (1823-1901). He was married to Eliza Jane Thomas about 1839. The name "Ms Eliza" is referenced in the letter. Very good. Item #12034
