Photograph Archive. A collection of 293 pre -World War II European 8" x 10" photographs taken in Sweden and Norway by Alfred B. Park, Ensign, USNR, 1939. Photographs were stored in a blue box with a hand written paper label - "Photographs taken by A.B.P. The ones of Stockholm Harbor Got Him Jailed By Swedish Police As a German spy! The Dull, Repetitive Shots From a Railroad Car Trace the Route to Oslo and to Bergen. Were printed at Request of Naval Intelligence Norway and Sweden 1939 (initials?) 7/21/98." The majority of photographs are duplicated. The collection consists of 142 pictures of identified places in Sweden, 21 of which are gem clipped. Photographs include landmarks, buildings, apartments, Churches, markets, art sculptures, harbors, groups of people outdoors, street scenes, countryside farms, forests, etc. Most of the photographs in this group were taken in Stockholm. Other locations identified in Sweden include Lidingo, Lindigo Island, Saltsjobaden, Skansen, Gotaplatsen, Erstaviken, and Sport Stuga. 12 gem clipped photographs were taken in Norway. 3 of those photographs have no identification markings. 47 photographs are identified with a stamp on back - "Railroad Between Oslo & Bergen, Norway Mid-December 1939." 43 separate photographs, numbered in red on back (#8-#51), are not identified as to location. 37 photographs have no markings at all. 4 photographs were taken in Bergens. 5 gem clipped misc. photographs have a note "from Mexico." 1 photograph is a map of Norway with a stapled "Road" markings on the verso with a written note - "Map to Accompany Photographs of Norway Taken by Alfred B. Park, Ensign, USNR." 1 photograph is identified as a picture of the "Bruzelius Family and Al August 1939." 1 smaller 7" x 5" photograph is of two horses. All photographs are curled on the left and right edges - a result from storage in the box. Photographs are clean and in very good condition otherwise. The box is tattered, torn, etc. Good +.
